Journalist, writer and mountaineer, Jean-Michel is a man of the mountains and of the pen. He has made five attempts to climb Everest, including his first in 1989. Long-time editor-in-chief of Montagnes magazine, Vertical and Alpinisme & Randonnée, he is now a freelance writer and hosts a weekly mountain column on France Bleu Isère. He is the author of numerous books, novels and mountain stories, including Un mensonge à l'Everest and Une histoire de l'Everest, recently published by Editions Glénat.
In this interview hosted by Eric Bonnem, founder of Secret Planet, Jean-Michel Asselin, storyteller extraordinaire, recalls the history of mountaineering on the world's highest peak, the major stages in its conquest and the ups and downs: from the first attempts to the most delirious, via the world's firsts, right up to the most recent developments. A rare and fascinating lecture not to be missed.
